Padres vs Phillies
-110 at BMaker
Play Type: Top Premium

The feel-good vibes surrounding the Philadelphia Phillies' offense on Wednesday were nowhere to be found through the first eight innings the following night before a six-run ninth sent the Citizens Bank Park faithful into a frenzy. The Phillies aim to ride the momentum of Bryce Harper's walk-off grand slam into Friday's opener of a three-game series against the visiting San Diego Padres.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Padres RH Chris Paddack (7-5, 3.26 ERA) vs. Phillies RH Vince Velasquez (4-7, 4.30)

Paddack received his second straight no-decision on Saturday after allowing three runs on five hits over six innings against Colorado. The 23-year-old has surrendered six homers in his last five starts overall and was taken deep twice on June 4 as part of a six-run, eight-hit effort in a 9-6 setback versus Philadelphia. Scott Kingery had a homer and added a double to join Harper with a pair of hits against Paddack in that contest.

Velasquez has overcome a rocky start in his return to the rotation by posting a 2-2 mark in a four-outing stretch in which he allowed seven runs on 17 hits across 22 2/3 innings. The 27-year-old continues to struggle with the home-run ball, however, as he was taken deep twice in a 3-1 setback at San Francisco on Saturday to raise his total to 10 in his last eight trips to the mound. Velasquez has stymied San Diego in three career appearances (two starts), posting a 2-0 mark with a 0.00 ERA after scattering five hits over 17 1/3 scoreless innings.

The availability of Padres rookie SS Fernando Tatis Jr. (back) is in question for the series opener, with multiple reports noting that a trip to the injured list is in his future.

Phillies take it at home.

Cubs vs Pirates

Cubs/Pirates over

The Chicago Cubs were already in the middle of a forgettable road trip before their latest meltdown away from Wrigley Field, blowing a prime opportunity to retake sole possession of first place in the National League Central. The Cubs hope to turn things around on their 10-game trek beginning Friday when they open a three-game set with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Chicago (64-57) was on the verge of avoiding a three-game sweep in Philadelphia on Thursday before losing in spectacular fashion, blowing a four-run lead in the ninth inning after surrendering a grand slam to Bryce Harper to cap a six-run rally by the Phillies.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Cubs RH Kyle Hendricks (8-9, 3.48 ERA) vs. Pirates RH Joe Musgrove (8-11, 4.71)

Hendricks' seven-game streak of allowing two runs or fewer came to an emphatic halt Saturday in Cincinnati after he was pummeled for seven runs on 12 hits - three homers - over 2 2/3 innings. The Dartmouth product posted a 2.35 ERA but managed only one win over his impressive stretch as the offense failed to provide him with more than two runs of support five times. Hendricks permitted two runs in three frames and did not factor into the decision July 2 at Pittsburgh.

Musgrove's rollercoaster second half continued Saturday in St. Louis, falling to 2-4 with a 6.53 ERA since the All-Star break after yielding three runs across 5 1/3 innings. The 26-year-old has held the opposition to three runs or fewer in half of his six post-break starts, but he surrendered a total of 17 earned runs in 13 frames over the other three.

Over is 8-3-1 in Cubs last 12 road games vs. a team with a losing home record. Over is 7-0 in Pirates last 7 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400. Over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.

Over the total is the play.

Dodgers vs Braves
-118 at pinnacle
Play Type: Top Premium

The Atlanta Braves host the Los Angeles Dodgers in a three-game series starting Friday that's an opportunity to prove they can play with the two-time defending National League champions. The Braves lead the NL East by 5 1/2 games and hold the second-best record in the league but were overmatched in a four-game loss to the Dodgers in last season’s NL Division Series and outscored 23-7 in an ugly three-game sweep by the NL West leaders in Los Angeles in May.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Dodgers RH Kenta Maeda (8-8, 4.12 ERA) vs. Braves RH Mike Soroka (10-2, 2.32)

Maeda snapped a rough three-start streak with a stellar outing Saturday against Arizona, striking out six while allowing three hits with no walks in seven shutout innings to end an 11-start winless streak. The 31-year-old had yielded 14 runs on 16 hits in just 11 innings across his three previous appearances and surrendered nine homers while pitching to a 5.23 ERA in his past 12 games (11 starts) before Saturday.

Soroka is 16 1/3 innings shy of his heaviest workload as a professional (153 2/3 innings pitched at Double-A Mississippi in 2017) but has tossed seven innings in each of his previous three starts while allowing four runs on 12 hits in that span. The 22-year-old blanked Miami over seven innings on Saturday, giving up three hits with one walk and six strikeouts, and entered Thursday second in the NL in ERA and eighth in WHIP (1.08). Soroka, who has surrendered one earned run or fewer in 14 of his 21 starts this season, makes his first career appearance against the Dodgers.

Dodgers are 3-8 in Maedas last 11 road starts. Braves are 6-1 in Sorokas last 7 home starts.

The Braves are the top play of the day.
